Instead, it plunged the world into chaos that took over 16 million lives and in the process transformed the world. Millions of women suddenly taking up work in factories led to liberalisation of society and women for the first entered the public life en masse.

Ah yes, the interbellum period leading to World War II. The gameplay's most important wrinkle is introduced in this era: Mayoral elections. Every six years you have to be elected mayor, through flattery or guile, or otherwise you are fired from the position and the game ends.
